Agronomists in Masindi Urgued to Support Farmers Improve Crop Yields

Agronomists in Masindi District have been urgued to support Farmers improve their crop yields so that they earn highly in returns.
Benon Mushabe, a Field Officer at Uganda Coorperative Alliance Limited (UCA) asked the Agronomists to assist in building strong Farmer Groups which can develop sustainable business enterprises.
Mushabe noted that, many Farmer Groups need assistance interms of capacity building because many of them do not focus on business oriented enterprises, instead they lay empasis on social enterprises
which deprives them of much income.
When asked about clusters, Mushabe explained that currently there are twelve clusters in the country with about 59 Districts and Masindi falls under Cluster 10.
"Masindi was zoned by Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and Advised to Priotize in maize and coffee mainly for the Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP) which is
manned by MAAIF in partnership with UCA", Mushabe explained.
He was speaking yesterday, during a five day workshop training of Agriculture Officers, Community Development Officers (CDO) and Community Based Facilitators (CBFs) on Agriculture Cluster Development
Project being held at the District Council Chambers.
The Five day Workshop Training started on Monday 10th August and is slated to end on Friday 14th August.
A few of the participants interviewed by the District Communication Officer, exhibited readiness to help Farmer Groups priotize on coffee and maize since they perform well in Masindi.
"We shall assist Farmer Groups with improved Agronomic practices especially on maize and coffee inorder to improve on their income levels", paricipants stated.
