Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development Earmarks Shs. 3 Billion for Construction of Remand Home

The Government through the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development (MGLSD) on Tuesday 1st September Launched the construction of the Bunyoro Regional Remand Home at Kabalye Cell, Karujubu
Division in Masindi Municipality which will cost 3 Billion Shillings.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the site handover and ground breaking ceremony, Fred Ngabirano the Comissioner for Youth and Children Affairs in the MGLSD said the facility will teach the Juvenile offenders
various skills while on remand like animal rearing, crop farming among others.
He also called upon parents to teach their children good morals inorder to reduce offenders at the remand home.
Speaking at the same ceremony, the Resident District Commisioner (RDC) Masindi, Martin Mugabi who received the site plan on behalf of Masindi District Local Government cautioned girls against
temtaptions from the workers at the construction site saying that they risk contracting HIV/AIDS.
Mugabi also advised the contractor to produce quality work while consructing the remand home. He warned saying that shoddy work will not be accepted since government has injected in alot of money to the
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Masindi, the Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (PACAO) Richard Kiiza said the construction of the regional remand home will help the
District get releaved of high expenditures spent on feeding the juvenile offenders since many of them come from outside Masindi.
Speaking on the same event, the District Chairperson who was represented by the District Council Speaker Moses Kiirya, called upon the contractor to priotize giving casual jobs to the area residents of
Kabalye Cell since the Project is in that locality.
