President Museveni Orders for the Establishment of a Service Center in Masindi District

President Museveni has ordered for the establishment of a service center in Masindi district to help overcome the challenges facing Masindi sugarcane farmers.
This was revealed by Major General John Mateeka from Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) during a meeting with Masindi sugarcane farmers held at Kinyara Sugar Social club on sunday where he
represented the OWC chief coordinator General Salim Saleh.

Major General Mateeka revealed that the center that will be established soon is aimed at minimizing the costs of production that sugarcane farmers in the district incur.
He added that the center that will be based at Kihonda Agricultural demonstration farm in Pakanyi sub county, will be launched on Friday 30th August 2019 by His Excellency The President and will among others contain
40 tractors ,sugarcane harvesting equipment ,training facility for tractor operators, post-harvest handlers, fertilizers, ICT lab among others which sugarcane farmers will be accessing at reduced cost.

The chairperson Masindi Sugarcane Growers Association (MASGAL) Cosmas Byaruhanga welcomed the establishment of the service center saying it will reduce the challenges sugarcane farmers in
Masindi face.
Byaruhanga called for cooperation of Farmers, Government and Kinyara Sugar so that the impasse between the Farmers and Kinyara can be resolved. He also asked security agencies in the district to
stop what he called protecting the interests of Kinyara Sugar Management at the expense of the farmers.

Hajji Mohamoud Kazimbiraine, a sugarcane farmer however expressed pessimism on whether the center will be established but he called for the involvement of the Ministry of
Agriculture that he said understanding farmers’ in the negotiations between farmers and Kinyara on sugarcane price.
