Train Farmer Groups on Safety Measures - Environmental Specialist

The Environmental Specialist from Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) under the Agriculture Cluster Project (ACDP), Barbra Clara Khayongo has implored the Community Based Facilitators
(CBFs) within Masindi to train Farmer Groups on the Safety Measures while carrying out Farm Activities.
Speaking during a one-day training of CBFs on the use of Agriculture, Enviromental and Social Safe Guards Guidelines yesterday in the District Council Chambers, Khayongo said Farm Groups need to be senstised
about the Safe Guards in order to avoid risks from Firms inform of Fumes, Wild Fires that might burn Coffee Plantations using Chemicals appropriately among others.
She also noted that, Farmer Groups need to be taught on how to use Fire Extinguishers to assist them in controlling outbreaks.
In another development, Khayongo urged the CBFs to also train the Farmer Groups on how to report and handle griviancies.
She later gave the CBFs, the Grievance Redress Mechanism Guidelines (GRM) which will assist the CBFs to disseminate accurate messages in grievance reporting.
In his closing remarks, the District Agriculture Officer, Job Byaruhanga appealed to the CBFs not to be movable due to delayed payments.
He assured the members who were not paid, saying that all is being done to enable them access their salaries.
He however, appreciated them for performing well, since a good number of Farmer Groups have been enabled under ACDP.
According to Byaruhanga, over 6093 Farmer Groups have so been enrolled into ACDP since the inception of the Project in the District last year and of these, 3,458 are males while 2,635 are females.
