300 farmers in Masindi district receive fertilizers

300 farmers in Masindi district operating demonstration sites of maize under the Agricultural Value Chains Development Project (AVCDP),have today recieved 114 bags worth Shs 25 millions of UREA top dressing fertilizer to enable their maize plantations produce quality maize.
Addressing the beneficiary farmers at the district headquarters as he handed over the fertilizer,the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Emmy Ngabirano, advised farmers to maximize profits with the application of this fertilizer as it performs well with maize plantations.
Speaking at the same function,the Senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (SACAO),Fred Kisembo who represented CAO, cautioned farmers against selling the fertilizer saying that, extension workers will monitor thier gardens to check whether they applied the fertilizer.
Fred Ssajakambwe,the Regional Coordinator for Western Region, revealed that this five year project commenced last year and that they have enrolled 28,080 farmers who will benefit from the project through maize seeds and fertilizer support.
He further said that,the project is being implemented by the Consortium of International Institution of Rural Reconstruction and Acholi private sector Development Company Limited with funding from the African Development Bank (ADB) and supported through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) .
