Shs 36 b budget approved by Masindi district for FY 2024/25

Masindi district council has today unanimously approved budget estimates worth shs 36 billions for the new Financial Year 2024/2025.
While presenting the motion on the above matter during the council session held in the district council chambers,the Secretary for Finance Pamela Nyakato disclosed that the budget estimates were revised from shs 35.7billions at the time it was laid to now shs 36 billions as the final figure for the budget estimates.
She however,told the members that the implementation of this new budget will be hamperd with challenges such as low staffing levels especially for Departmental Heads and Urban Town Councils, budget cuts on Uganda Road Fund(URF), Limited capacity of some Contractors and delays in procurement litigations.
In arelated development, council also approved by-laws of Kyatiri Town Council and Bikonzi Sub-County against child labour.
Molly Namirembe Asiimwe,the National Project coordinator for International Labour Organization (ILO), commended the district council for the support rendered towards the successful achievement of the by-laws.
She however said that, according to the survey conducted by ILO and UNICEF, indicated that there are 160 million children engaged in child labour globally with 79 million of them in hazardous work and 40% of child labour is reported in Uganda.
