The Proprietor of Kana Farm in Rwengaju village Kabarole district, Richard Nyakana has urged Masindi district leaders to embrace modern farming practices inorder to harness much house hold income.
Nyakana illustrated how he uses his 1.2 acres of land to engage in dairy farming and poultry.
He disclosed that,from his six Friesian dairy cows,he gets about 100 liters of milk daily and 120 trays of eggs from poultry earning him adaily gross income of shs 1.2million.
Nyakana said,he processes animal feeds and poultry feeds to help his dairy cows and poultry have better returns.
On how Rwengaju village became a model village,he said that, according to a poverty assessment report of 2004 for Kabarole district.It showed that,this village was the second poorest in the district after Kitini village currently in Bunyangabu district.
He further said, H.E the President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni got concerned when he visited this village and asked the district to focus on elevating Rwengaju to amodel village through advising farmers on best farming practices but also recieve financial support.
Nyakana said this,while he hosted the Masindi district council team on his farm during a three day study tour to Kabarole district.
The three day study tour commenced on Tuesday this week and ended today with major areas of study which included Agri-Led activities,Water management and supply system, tourism development initiatives,the industrial park and Rwengaju model village.
Masindi district Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga lauded the reception exhibited by the Kabarole team.
He pledged to transfer the knowledge attained from the study trip to subsistence farmers who are still working for the stomach to elevate to improved farming methods.
