30 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) best performing candidates were yesterday rewarded with gifts during the 38th NRM anniversary celebrations for Masindi district.
Officiating as the Chief Guest during the NRM celebrations that were held at Kinumi Primary School in Miirya Sub-County under the theme,"Building a Country We all Cherish",Rtd Major Gen.Jim Owoyeesigyire gave out gifts including mattresses, blankets and certificates as a token of appreciation to the pupils who excelled during last year's PLE results.
He however, called for more efforts inorder to attain many good grades.
Last year, atotal of 3,076 candidates registered for PLE and of these 224 pupils scored Div I representing 7.2%,1,502 scored Div II representing 49%,724 scored Div III representing 23.5%,320 got Div IV representing 10.3% while 276 were un graded representing 9% and 30 candidates missed the examinations representing 1%.
Kamurungi Jeireh Christopher emerged the best candidate scoring five aggregates from Kinyara Sugar Works primary school in Kabango Town Council.
The top schools among others included; Walyoba Brilliant primary school in Miirya Sub-County with 3.7 points, Ebenezer primary school in Kabango Town Council with 3.5 points, Walyoba COU primary school in Labongo Sub-County with 3.4 points, Kinyara Sugar Works in Kabango Town Council with 3.4 points, Blessed Damian in Kyatiri Town Council with 3.4 points, Katumba Lutheran primary school in Pakanyi Sub-County with 3.3 points, Bulima Valley primary school in Bulima Town Council with 3.2 points, Isagara primary school in Bikonzi Sub-County with 3.0 points, Kabango primary school in Kabango Town Council with 3.0 points, Masindi Centre for the Handicapped in Bikonzi Sub-County with 2.9 points and Nyakyanika primary school in Labongo Sub-County with 2.9 points.
Speaking during the same function,the District NRM Chairperson, Kabakumba Masiko urged residents to embrace government programs inorder to improve their livelihood.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Emmy Ngabirano told the gathering that elements of cattle thefts have been managed by the security agencies and that aracket of cattle thefts has been arrested in the recent months in the areas of Kijunjubwa.
The Member of Parliament for Buruuli County,Hon.Aled Ronald Akugizibwe assured the locals that the sugar bill once passed by Parliament will benefit both the cane millers and the cane farmers.
The District Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga reminded government of the key services that the district needed which were anew hospital, a modern market and electricity in the urban areas.
