Masindi Performs Excellently in the Mass Polio Vaccination Campaign

Masindi District has performed excellently in the just concluded exercise of the Mass Polio Vaccination which saw over 72,000 children below 5 years immunized against Polio.
While presenting the results to the stakeholders yesterday at the District Health Officer's (DHO) Resource Centre, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Richard Tabaaro said the target that was set by the Ministry Of Health (MOH) was 95.5% coverage, but the District scored over 101.57% of the children below 5 years who were immunized against polio.
The total number of children who were immunized against polio were 72,932 but the initial District target was 71,806 children.
Tabaaro disclosed that, Kijunjubwa Sub county merged the best with a score of 319% while Labongo Sub-County came second with a score of 224.9% and Kijunjubwa Town Council was the worst performer with 43.1% in the Mass Polio Vaccination exercise.
Speaking in the same dissemination meeting of results of the mass Polio Vaccination Campaign, Phionah Sanyu appreciated the health workers especially the In-Charges and Martin Drabo the District Health Inspector who was the team for exhibiting utmost coordination and team work something which led to the success of the exercise despite having limited resources.
She requested the other collogues to borrow a leaf form Martin Drabo since he coordinated the exercise successfully without any crisis and yet the resources were meager.
She also thanked the UNICEF for funding the campaign with shillings 48 millions which were used for social mobilization and distribution of Polio vaccine carriers.
She however, implored the Acting District Health Officer to always update the stakeholder on Covid 19 Vaccination and the other activities related to Covid 19.
The District Chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga joined the rest of the speakers to applaud the health workers for performing the Mass Polio Vaccination Campaign excellently since the district scored above the target that was set by Ministry Of Health.
He also tasked the Acting DHO to avail the Ministry Of Health the updated data on parishes in the District so that the Ministry allocates efficient health services to the District.
