Practice hand washing to reduce the disease burden -District Boss

Masindi district Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga has urged residents of Kimanya village to always wash their hands and keep their homesteads hygienic inorder to prevent diseases which are caused by poor sanitation.
He says,if the sanitation and hygiene are practiced in homes, about 70% of the disease burden would reduce and thus having a healthy population which would concentrate adequately on the work force.
He said this yesterday, while officiating as the Chief Guest during the crowning of the sanitation week at Kimanya Primary School in Budongo Sub-County that was held under the theme,"Sanitation and Hygiene for all,aKey to Sustainable Health Living".
Speaking at the same function,the Secretary for Social Services, Sylvia Karungi challenged women to take lead in sanitation of their homes.
While giving the district status report on sanitation,the Health Inspector,Winnifred Namuswe revealed that the district latrine and hand washing coverage was at 79% and 38.4% respectively.
The report further read that, safe water coverage was at 71% overall and 92% in rural areas while 22% in Urban areas.
She added that,in Budongo Sub-County which was the host Sub-County for the sanitation week ,the latrine coverage was at 68.4% while hand washing was at 17.2% which was far below the district coverage.
