Residents urged to protect community forests

The Executive Director Jane Goodall Institute (JGI),James Byamukama has urged locals to protect and preserve forests in their localities inorder to sustain the eco-system.
Byamukama also lauded the District leadership for according JGI an enabling working environment that has enabled their entity implement the three year project dubbed,"Growing Together II Initiative",that has supported communities in Nyantonzi and Budongo Sub-Counties in briquette making and tree planting.
This initiative has registered success including more than 50% of originally degraded forest land has been restored,nine community forests around Budongo and Nyantonzi areas have been maintained and managed well among others.
He made the remarks today during an evaluation meeting that was held in the district council chambers which was aimed at closing the project.
Speaking during the closure,the District Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga appreciated JGI for supporting communities in income generating activities which has improved their livelihoods.
