Stop illegal water sources -Assitant RDC delivers advice

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Masindi district, Patrick Asiimwe has advised the water sector in the district to intensify monitoring and supervision of water sources to avert illegal shallow wells such that the community is protected against un safe water.
Asiimwe delivered the advice yesterday, during the District Water Supply and Sanitation Coordination meeting that was held in the district council chambers.
Addressing stakeholders in the same meeting, the District Vice Chairperson, Kassim Kabagonza challenged the implementing partners under water sector to always submit their work plans and quarterly performance reports to key district authorities inorder to have smooth operations in the district.
While making a presentation on the annual performance report for the water sector,the District Water Officer, Alfred Ocen explained that during last financial year,the multi-million piped water project for Kikuube-Kikingura was still on going while the feasibility studies and design of Bulima piped water system was completed.
He further illustrated that,four hygiene promotion campaigns were held while Water Trust drilled two deep boreholes and also rehabilitated ten deep boreholes while eighty hand pumps were improved by Water Aid Uganda.
According to the data he projected as of June 2024,it showed that Sub-Counties of Budongo, Bwijanga,Miirya and Pakanyi had a percentage score of 95% for district access to water.
