Digital safety campaign welcomed by consumers

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC),on Friday this week held a dialogue in Masindi district with focus of promoting digital safety.
While making a presentation on digital safety,Kenneth Tweheyo from the Consumer Department at Uganda Communications Commission, explained that telecommunication users need to use authentic phone applications but also avoid sharing passwords and using weak passwords while making money transactions either by phone or through the bank inorder to avoid fraudsters.
He was addressing stakeholders during a regional consumer dialogue held at Country Inn hotel under the theme,"Digital safety, Your Priority".
While giving his remarks,the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO),Samson Natsambwa lauded Uganda Communications Commission for running the campaign of digital safety stressing that this will help locals attain skills of avoiding traps set by fraudulent people.
In her presentation on the survey findings on consumer feedback,Clare Katete, revealed that over 82.4% of the consumers reported to have fallen victims of fraudsters through mobile money and sms services.
The survey findings further stated,MTN was the most preferred telecommunication company while Airtel came in second position.The survey also disclosed that radio was the most preferred media service and that radio seven was the most listened too, followed by radio Kings and then radio BBS.
Speaking as he closed the engagement,the Resident District Comissioner (RDC), Darius Nandinda,asked Uganda Communications Commission to regulate media outlets especially radios that occasionally recruit un educated staff who most of the times use aderrogative language over public figures putting their status into disrepute.
