Masindi schools receive iron sheets,youth groups get sewing machines
At least four schools in Masindi District have received over 500 iron sheets from the Ministry of Bunyoro Affairs to support improvement of school infrastructure.
The materials were handed over on Tuesday at the district headquarters by the State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs,Hon.Jennifer Kacha Namuyangu,who cautioned beneficiaries against misuse of the support.
The distribution saw Nyantonzi primary school and Isagara primary school each receive 150 iron sheets,while St.Mary's Kyatiri primary school and Ntooma primary school received 100 iron sheets a piece.
Namuyangu said the intervention is part of ongoing government efforts to improve learning conditions and support community development.She noted that the ministry has also been supporting youth, women and Persons With Disabilities through micro project grants, many of whom have already registered positive results.
In addition,the Minister handed over 15 sewing machines to beneficiary groups comprising graduates of the Bunyoro Industrial hub, aimed at boosting skills development and income generation.
She tasked the offices of the Resident District Commissioner and that of Chief Administrative Officer to closely monitor the beneficiaries to ensure proper utilization of the items.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer,Jane Akiror,welcomed the support, saying the iron sheets will help improve school facilities and create a better learning environment for pupils, which is key to enhancing academic performance.
She also encouraged recipients of the sewing machines to use them productively to improve their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, District Male Councilor for Labongo Sub-County,Wahid Juma Babyesiza, representing the District Chairperson, warned school authorities against diverting the iron sheets, noting that anyone found misusing the materials will face legal action.
